Environmental support

We implement various environmental measures to reduce CO2 emissions in temperature-controlled logistics operations.

While temperature-controlled logistics is an indispensable part of maintaining stability and consistency in our food culture, it is also true that temperature-controlled warehousing, transport, and delivery together generate considerable amounts of CO2.Our aim is to achieve operations with minimal environmental damages by promoting optimal distribution logics and our eco-driving practices. We believe this to be our responsibility as a group of companies that caters to our customers’ temperature-controlled logistics needs and aspires to benefit the greater community.

Approaches taken by the Nichirei Logistics Group

Proposing optimum logistics
  • We make a point of reducing environmental impact through efficiency of logistics such as joint-delivery and modal shifts.
  • We conduct joint-delivery to department store's grocery floor and stores in station or station-building.
Environmental friendliness in transport and distribution
  • Thorough truck maintenance, the promotion of the training for drivers, the promotion of the eco-driving initiative, and the introduction of environmentally friendly trucks.
  • We measure CO2 emissions from transport and distribution for individual shippers and provide reports.
Environmental measures taken at distribution centers
  • We aim at recycling rate of 99% for sustainable environmental cycle.
  • On 2012, we are targeting the 3% reduction of total CO2 emmision from 2009 as a measure against global warming .
・Energy-efficient equipment such as efficient transformer and solar power generation.
・Replacement with LED light in warehouse to save electricity and reduce CO2 emissions.
・Ammonia refrigeration system in our new distribution center as energy-saving and natural refrigerator.

Environmental track record (FY2010)

  • We achieved 99.3% recycling rate of waste products.
  • Total CO2 emmision was 101% compared to FY2009 due to the construction of new distribution center, but practically 98% except newly-constructed center.
  • Introduction of low-emission vehicle( 65% our own trucks at the end of FY2010).
  • E-learning program, environmental exhibition, and household electricity-saving campaign as education for our emproyees.
  • Periodical driver's contest to improve our logistics quality
